Dance & TMJ Physical Therapist
Jennifer Coviello is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist with a special focus on treating dancers and patients with TMJ dysfunction and jaw pain. She combines advanced orthopedic expertise with an extensive background in dance and movement science to help patients recover from injury, move with confidence, and return to the activities they love.
Physical Therapy for Dancers
Jennifer studied Dance Science at Muhlenberg College before earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University. As a lifelong dancer and current dance instructor, she understands the unique physical demands placed on dancers at every level.
Jennifer treats dancers with foot and ankle injuries, hip and knee pain, back pain, overuse injuries, and other orthopedic conditions. Rehabilitation is designed not simply to reduce pain, but to restore the strength, mobility, control, and confidence needed to return to dance safely and perform at a high level.
TMJ & Jaw Pain Physical Therapy
Jennifer also specializes in the treatment of TMJ dysfunction, including jaw pain, clicking or popping, headaches, facial pain, difficulty chewing, and neck pain associated with TMJ disorders.
Her orthopedic background allows her to evaluate the jaw as part of the larger movement system, including the relationship between the jaw, neck, posture, muscle function, and movement. Treatment may include hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, and strategies to improve jaw and cervical mobility and function.
Jennifer also treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions and has experience working with older adults with balance and fall-related concerns. She has participated in research involving the development of aerobic dance and functional strengthening programs for fall prevention.
Personal Interests
Dance has been Jennifer’s passion since she began dancing at age two. She continued dancing through college and remains actively involved today, teaching dancers of various ages at her childhood dance studio. Outside of the clinic and dance studio, Jennifer enjoys cooking, running, and spending time with her family.
Jennifer sees patients at Summit Physical Therapy in Summit, NJ, serving dancers and patients with TMJ and orthopedic conditions from Summit, Short Hills, Millburn, Maplewood, Chatham, Florham Park, New Providence, Springfield, and South Orange.
